I'm thinking....
After I get my uterus removed I'll retire to the country to a house with a wrap around porch, buy myself a nice jaguar, and spend my weekends crocheting, gardening and taking up golf.

Cause a girls gotta live...

Stupid cats
Stupid cats knocked over my flowers as I was getting the kids ready. They’re been sitting there for almost a week…I guess it was just a matter of time. Oh well, my office floor needed to be washed anyway.

*sigh*

New Art - Call of the Sea

I've broken the drought!!! Yay!!!! And I really like this artwork...the original has me giggling every time I look at it: it has such a soft storybook character to it that makes me happy :) This little guy has been a mere linework for months on end now, until yesterday when I decided to bite the bullet and paint something already! So I had fun with textures and techniques and today, he came to life infront of me as if by magic! Well I suppose it must have been magic because I tell you, yesterday I felt as if I'd never be able to paint or draw again, so long had I gone without it. Anyway, enough babbling...here is "Call of the Sea" painted in watercolours.

As I had no new art for the last website update, I've decided to release him as prints now: prints are available in all four sizes here.

Melanie Safka - DeMille Theatre 1971 / ... / holiday cards need your addy!!

"I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far
For somebody who don't drive
I been all around the world
Some people say, I done all right for a girl"

I'm digging through my vinyl today and rockin' out. I really do need an acoustic... electric just isn't me.

I slept in until 9 today... I got some much needed sleep aside from BJ (cat) waking me at 7 licking my arm pits and arms - hahaha. He ended up nuzzling underneath the covers and laying down.

My stomach has been sore these past two days and I can't sleep on it .. boo. I'm assuming it's healing inside and tightening up.

I cooked up a storm yesterday. I ended up baking these pumpkin muffins, a giant meatloaf, chicken and gnocchi stew in the crockpot, tomato sauce, a salad for the week, portobellos stuffed with lemon scented quinoa and arugula, and some roasted broccoli.

Also Holiday cards... Leave me your address and I'll send you one it doesn't matter if you are reciprocating or not :)

Yuk
Wow. Don't draw or paint for two months straight and you can pretty much bet you won't like what happens when you try and do it again. Gah. Thank god I have about a million sketches lying around...but I'm too scared to paint them in case I stuff them up! Some of them are months old. Oh to have the time to just draw and paint whenever inspiration grabs me! :)

Advice from a Retired Husband
stolen from [info]glenmarshall

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

My name is Jim. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Terri. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Terri to get a full-time job along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work.

Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club so eating out is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door. She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner.

I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean). I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Terri. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

Signed,
Jim

EDITOR'S NOTE:
Jim died suddenly on February 7 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife Terri was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defense that Jim, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

The garden is planted
Well after many hours this week, + some sunburn thrown in for free, our new vege patch is finally planted.

I'm trying a new tactic with my basil this time - I've planted heaps of it (18 plants)... some for the slugs and catapillars, and some for us ;) Hopefully it will also keep the little blighters away from the vegies; I don't mind giving them a free dinner if it means our dinner stays in one piece!

Now it's the fun bit of waiting, watering, and seeing what happens. I suspect some of these plants will simply not be able to cope with the Brisbane summer that's just around the corner, particularly since it promises to be a very hot one this year, but we'll see how they go.

Zac the dog belongs to the family across the road but they are out all day so he's been escaping and coming over to see me. He's a lovely dog and I certainly enjoy the company :)

New art and site updates,
because I am waaay behind and have a lot to post now. I worked on a new site design last weekend and I think I finally have something that looks like me :) My previous graphics were not actually drawn by me.

Last week I got an award from the Anime Weekend Atlanta art show. I'm happy because it's the first time I've had one since 2003.

2009 Calendar

It was a little too late to do a print run of 2009 calendars this year but I do have one available in a few places, complete with lovely design by [info]mercurialeye. Instead of the usual 12 images it has 14 because some ACEOs were included. I added it to my Deviantart, Zazzle and Cafepress accounts to give people the most options. (The CP date pages don't look quite as nice but it is a bit more affordable).

out of work?
I kind of got a pink slip today. I could have a job back at my old place but there isn't any more work for anyone to do right now. So the company isn't gone more like our jobs are on hold for now. I am really upset about it. I loved my job. I really really really loved my job. I don't want to look for a new but I know that come monday morning I will be out hunting. Tonight I plan to relax, get drunk and eat cheese. If you know anyone who is looking for a very skilled full time seamtress, with 2 years exp with making bras, let me know! PLEASE?!!

PICSPAM!
wow. three posts in a day. i'm almost back to my old compulsive journal using self!

i forgot to mention, in my list of very exciting things, that i got a new shirt that i'm really super excited about.
i actually found it in the boy's section of best and less (a totally cheapo clothing chain here) for $9.99.
can we say BARGAIN!?!?!
i was afraid it wouldn't fit. especially since i have a monster head and the neck hole wasn't very big, but bingo! i got the second last one. and the last one was a tiny, little boy's size.
so! now that i know i can squeeze myself into boy's clothing, the world's my oyster, i say.

behold, my new shirt!

ha-HA!
just after 9pm, and i've finished my website work for the night.
now i need some more details from the client before taking further steps.

and the storm was awesome. noisy and lightening everywhere, so i stood out on the verandah for a while to watch the whole thing, then let some candles (power kept dipping) and played some guitar until was safe to turn everything back on again.

i feel like i've used my time wisely.
and i didn't even eat a whole pack of peanut m+m's! for the win! seth can have them when he gets home.

in other news, i went ahead and got a second hand wacom to replace my (possibly soon to be) dead in the arse one.
it's still a little graphire, but i'm apprehensive. we'll see how this actually goes.

and in other REALLY INTERESTING news, i bought us a new garbage bin. it one of those split, two-in-one bins, where one side is recycling and the other garbage. this is awesome because we had two separate bins for these things before, and it took up too much room in the itty bitty kitchen.
but now there's room! and it has these weird little oval pop-open lids that i'm finding really disturbingly fun to use.
i feel like i'm living in the future!
yes, a garbage bin is the future to me. i'm that behind the times.

i had one of those days at work that sends you straight to a packet of peanut m+m's...
and just reading the packet now to find out if it's spelt m+ms or m+m's, i found out that they contain wheat starch. goddamnit it all to hell. i'll eat them anyway.

seth's out and i'm supposed to be devoting my evening to working on a website for a client, but i'm seriously lacking motivation this week.
i seem to be spending all my time looking up rental properties on realestate.com.au, imagining where we might move come april. i also thoroughly enjoy looking up houses for sale, just to imagine getting away.
i'm kinda not digging my life right now. but, oddly enough, i'm not depressed. so i guess that's a good thing...if not enjoying one's life can be a good thing.

aaaannnd it seems a heavy storm is coming in. just been watching it come from the south east - made the sky look all sorts of wonderful colours, but guess that means no website work for me.
my computer gets turned off lest it explode.
ah well.
